G. Members Meeting: Feb 2, 2017

Posted on Posted in G. Meeting Minutes

A big thank you to everyone that made it out to our meeting this past Thursday. Here is a summary of key ideas and important information from the meeting:

💟Vinyl Valentines – This event is one week away. We have sold 80 tickets and would like to reach our goal of 125. Please promote our event over the next week and we ask that all members sell a minimum of TWO more tickets before the event. Your committee has put in a lot of work and needs your support to make this event as successful as possible! Please share the “friends” discount code with everyone you see as ticket prices go up to $40 tomorrow!

February 11th Volunteers 🎉 – We collected a list of volunteers to help with set-up, ticket sales, and clean up during the Vinyl Valentines event. If you are able to assist us during the event and have not signed up yet, please let me know. We are particularly interested in someone to sell drink tickets from 9-10:15pm. We would appreciate support from ALL of our members during this event. I will send out an additional email with the schedule attached.

Thank-You Cards💌 – Cards for Eva Olsson and Mike/Shelly Duben were signed by members present – a $50 donation was made to the Interval House in their name to thank them for their presentation at the last meeting. We are also interested in receiving requests of speakers and projects you may be interested in!

🍁Duck Derby – We received a request to participate from the Rotary Club of Bracebridge.  They need a new lottery ticket holder, and have asked us to help with this long-term.  We would assist with the Canada Day celebrations by selling tickets in advance and on the day of. We will make all profits from every ticket we sell and in addition, any tickets sold by non-rotarians (ie. Lions club members etc.), we take home 50% of profits.  We took a club vote and the majority of members were in favour of supporting this event.

Rotary Weekend🛍 This is happening April 7 – 9 in North Bay.  Rotaractors are only responsible for accommodation and food for the weekend, the rest is covered by our Rotary Partners at the District (there will be fantastic speakers in attendance).  Madison is going and hoping for more members to join.  The Rotaract Club of North Bay is hosting us for the evening, where we will go to the Escape Room in North Bay, then head over to the local pub for eats and drinks.  Please let us know no later than the first meeting in March if you will be in attendance, as we need to book the space.  The Rotaractors of North Bay have offered to host us, if we wish not to stay in hotels.

💲 District Global Grant Scholarship – This is available for 2018-2019 applications. The scholarship is worth up to $40,000 USD for a year of study outside of Canada. The goal of the selection process is to recruit highly qualified and deserving candidates. This exclusive scholarship will help fund a student, from the Rotary District 7010 area, to pursue graduate studies (at the Master’s level) and service dreams that will have an impact in one or more of Rotary’s areas of focus, including: peace and conflict prevention/resolution; disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and economic and community development.  Qualified candidates must submit a completed application for review and support by their local Rotary Club by Monday April 17, 2017.

See you all next weekend at our Vinyl Valentines event! Our next meeting will take place on February 16th.

Yours in Rotaract

Madison Low

President
